The Energy Systems in your body
Around 72,000 energy channels run throughout your body. The Chinese call these energy channels the Meridians and use acupuncture to open them. In yogic terms they are called Nadis and we use breath, asana, meditation, movement and visualisation techniques to purify and detoxify them, allowing the energy to flow throughout the body with ease and abundance.
Three main energy channels
We also have three main energy channels that work within the system. The right side of the body is masculine and the energy channel is called Pingala. The left side of the body is feminine and the energy channel is called Ida. The main energy channel is the spine, the central nervous system, or in yoga the Sushumna Nadi.
Different styles – same goal
The aim of yoga is to unite the masculine and feminine through breath, asana, meditation, movement and visualisation techniques. One way is through Kundalini where we are moving the Shakti (female) energy from the base of the spine to the third eye Chakra to meet Shiva (male) energy and unite them as one in union. In Hatha yoga (Asana) HA means sun (male) THA means moon (female), so through Asana we are uniting the sun and the moon, the male and female energies.
Yoga means union.
Energy Centres (Chakras)
Also we have seven energy centres (Chakras) in or around the physical body, starting at the base of the spine working up to the crown of the head. Each Chakra represents different working systems within the physical, energy, emotional, intellect and bliss bodies. Find more information further down.
Energy blockages
Remember the body is a reflection of the mind, so any limiting thoughts or beliefs will reflect in the body and cause energy channels to block. A belief is just a thought that you keep thinking and you have the power to choose what you think.
Let's talk and discover energy together
Ida Nadi
"lunar" energy channel associated with feminine qualities. Located to the left of the spine. Cooling and soothing effect.
Pingala Nadi
"solar" energy channel associated with male qualities. Located to the right of the spine. Stimulating effect.
Sushumna Nadi
Central channel, associated with energy in its non-dual state. Free from masculine and feminine qualities. Located from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.

Energy from Bandhas
One way to practically tap into your energy is by using Bandhas (Locks).
"Practicing Maha Bandha concentrates and moves the internal energy upwards. The apana vayu is pulled up to the abdominal area where it merges with the prana vayu. When these different qualities of energy are blended together, they can rise up along the central channel. This leads to heightened levels of awareness, boosts mental clarity, and eventually leads toward self-realization. It also activates the root chakra (Muladhara), navel chakra (Manipura), and throat chakra (Vishuddha).
Maha Bandha is the most skillful means for cutting away the snares of death. It brings about the conjunction of the Triveni (Ida, Pingala and Sushumna) and carries the mind to Kedar (the space between the eyebrows, which is the seat of Shiva).

Energy & Chakras
Life Force Energy
The energy that runs throughout your body is what determines your well-being, not just physically but also mentally. Breath, movement, mediation, visualisation and Asana are all techniques that we use in Kundalini (Yoga) to allow our life force or vital energy to flow in and around our beings with ease and abundance.
Your body is just a reflection of your mind as is the outer world. So all your limiting thoughts and beliefs are the very cause of you not receiving all the incredible things you desire.
